Atlock Farm wins three major awards at Philadelphia Flower Show!
The Atlock Farm Group, consisting of Ken Selody II of Somerset, Margaret
Williams of Far Hills, and Ray Rogers of North Brunswick (all located in New
Jersey), took top honors at the 2005 Philadelphia Flower Show at the
Pennsylvania Convention Center from March 5 to 13. Their entry in the Container
Display Class created an ideal American setting within a 6 x 10-foot "interior"
space that was complemented by a 2 x 10-foot "exterior" patio accented with
containerized woody plants and blooming Lenten roses. The interior space
featured more than 40 choice specimen plants in a cozy den, complete with a
big, old leather chair and a bookcase filled with American novels and classic
gardening books. Blooming bulbs and orchids, colorful foliage plants, precisely
trimmed topiaries, fragrant herbs and shrubs, and a wide variety of cacti and
other succulents created a comfortable inner sanctum that prompted both judging
panels to express their wish to walk right into the exhibit, sit down, and relax.
Throughout the course of the Show, the Atlock Farm Group's exhibit won two blue
ribbons, a rosette from the Philadelphia Cactus and Succulent Society, the PHS
Trophy for the best entry in Container Display, the Meadowbrook Farm Indoor
Gardening Trophy, and the Garden Club of America's Certificate of Excellence
in Horticulture.
Atlock Farm, begun by owner Ken Selody II in 1987, offers rare and unusual
plants, including distinctive annuals and perennials, colorful tropicals,
choice woody plants, and meticulously trained topiaries. The gift shop features
one-of-a-kind treasures and a carefully chosen selection of garden ornaments
and handmade pots. From midspring to late fall, the gardens provide inspiration
and a place to enjoy many of Atlock's offerings in an outdoor setting. Along
with Atlock's plants and accessories comes the kind of expertise available
only from enthusiastic and experienced gardeners. New for 2005 is the schedule
of programs and tours, which joins the annual Summer and Holiday Open Houses to
provide a year-long calendar of gardening enjoyment at Atlock Farm.
